Jose Mourinho wants January signing following Zlatan Ibrahimovic endorsement

Most Manchester United fans are expecting Jose Mourinho to make himself busy during the winter transfer window.

Despite the club investing upwards of £150 million to sign Paul Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Eric Bailly in the summer, the Red Devils are yet to demonstrate having a great deal of chemistry under Mourinho.

The Portuguese has watched his side slip to an 11-point gap behind Chelsea at the top of the league and is under increasing pressure to turn things around - and soon.

Dipping into the transfer market is one way - and often the go-to method for big clubs - to boost their chances of ending the campaign with some silverware to show for their efforts.

Given the manner in which the Red Devils’ season has panned out so far, it would be surprising if they chose not to throw some cash around when the window reopens in little more than a month.

However, Mourinho already appears to be lining up a deal for a player who has caught the eye of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, no less.

Portuguese media outlet O Jogo, as per the Daily Mail, reports the Old Trafford outfit have contacted representatives of Benfica defender Victor Lindelof in a bid to set up a move.

Club scouts are thought to have watched him play in a 6-0 win over Maritime on Saturday, and a deal could be completed in January as United look to bolster their defensive options.

Lindelof - who joined the Portuguese club in 2011 - has played alongside Ibrahimovic at international level and subsequently been impressive enough to warrant public praise from the striker.

IBRAHIMOVIC PRAISE

"I think Victor is doing great things, he is playing good for Benfica, he gets a lot of responsibility for the national team now," the 35-year-old said.

"He is growing. Is he good enough for United? I think he's good enough for the big clubs out there. It's up to him what he wants and what the situation says.

"Whatever he chooses will be good for him. I know he is hot on the market so let him make the right choice, what fits him good."

It takes some player to elicit a compliment from Ibrahimovic, so United could be wise to pursue Lindelof as an alternative to yet another big-money signing.
