Jose Mourinho is targeting a winter move for Mikel John Obi, according to reports.
The Sun suggests that Manchester United boss Mourinho is looking to reunite with the Chelsea defensive midfielder at Old Trafford.
It is understood that United could sign the Nigerian for a cut-price in January, 10 years after the Red Devils thought they had originally signed him.
Mikel left Norwegian club Lyn in 2006 with the presumption that he would be joining United only for Mourinho and Chelsea to firmly remind his agents that they had an agreement to sign the then-19-year-old.
Mourinho is eager to bring in a holding midfielder he can use in front of the back four which would allow world-record signing Paul Pogba to play a more attacking role as he strives to mastermind United's move up the Premier League table.
Mikel is out of contract at Stamford Bridge at the end of the season and is likely to be offloaded by Antonio Conte this winter as he is yet to be used by the Italian.
Whether or not the Blues want to sell to a direct rival remains to be seen.
