Toni Kroos' Tweet
Toni Kroos almost broke the Internet today with his Happy New Year tweet.
The German isn't exactly renowned for his outspokenness or controversy, but he really went all out with his first Tweet of 2017, by referencing Germany's infamous 7-1 over Brazil at the 2014 World Cup.
It's one of the most historic games in the history of the game, which has justifiably gone down in legend and been added to the mythology of the Beautiful Game.
And given the numerical coincidence between 1-7 and 17, some cheeky Germans came up with the joke of including the German and Brazil flags in in the Year 2017.
Toni Kroos picked up on it, and it's safe to say it banged: at the time of writing, it's amassed 175K RTs.
Ronaldo Nazario responds
Kroos' tweet hasn't gone down at all well with Brazilians, and you can kind of see their point; they hardly wanted to have their most embarrassing defeat in their history dragged up on the first day of the new year.
His Real Madrid teammate Marcelo clearly took exception, as his 2017 showed, and now one of Brazil's greatest ever players has essentially ended Kroos with a truly epic response.
Ronaldo Nazario responded on Facebook by turning the tables on Kroos, placing the Brazil and German flags over the 2 and 0 in reference to Brazil's 2-0 win over Germany in the 2002 World Cup final.
