Paul Clement is set to be announced as the new Swansea boss

The 44-year-old has agreed a two-and-a-half-year deal after being given permission to formally discuss the vacant job by Bayern Munich yesterday.

Bayern assistant Clement has never managed in the Premier League and was sacked after just eight months in charge at Derby last season - his only previous job in management.

Clement missed out after being interviewed for the job earlier in the season when the club picked Bob Bradley instead after sacking Francesco Guidolin at the start of October.

Now after belatedly turning to him, Swansea are desperately hoping he will succeed where Bradley failed in his 85 days in charge.

Swansea are rooted to the foot of the Premier League ahead of tonight’s trip to fellow strugglers Crystal Palace, four points from safety.

Swansea have conceded 44 goals in 19 league games to date including 13 in their last four.

Clement will be given up to £30m to spend in the transfer window with Swansea targeting a new central defender, a midfielder and a striker.

Palace boss Sam Allardyce reckons his side are under just as much pressure as Swansea though.

“Swansea is a massive game for the nerves of our players,” said Allardyce, who has only been in charge for two games himself.

“They have to control their nerves because everybody expects us to win, on the basis that Swansea are struggling.

“We’re struggling, but they’re struggling really badly. They’ve been conceding three or four goals in games and people are expecting us to go out and thrash them, which won’t be the case.”
