Shakira Wants Gerard Pique To Leave Barcelona For Premier League

You'd have thought a footballer integral to his country's World Cup, European Championship and u19 European Championship success would be revered in said country, but not when it comes to Gerard Pique. And that's why he might leave La Liga.

Imagine in England just how loved and adored every single member of a World Cup winning squad would be. Paul Collingwood got an MBE for supplying just 17 runs in the final Test against Australia in the 2005 Ashes, any footballing World Cup winner would be instantly knighted.

Unfortunately for Gerard Pique that isn't the case. The Barcelona defender loves Catalonia too much and hates Real Madrid too much to be loved universally, especially in the Spanish capital.

And, according Don Balon via Goal.com, Shakira, Pique's long term girlfriend and mother of their children and the super famous recording artist, wants Pique to quit Barca for the delights of a London based Premier League side because of the abuse he comes under.

The 29 year old often gets booed at home international matches for Spain because of his support for Catalan being a separate country to Spain, something that specifically isn't well received in the capital Madrid.

Pique has also been known for ramping up the Clasico rivalry between Barcelona and Real Madrid on Twitter, laughing at Real's bad results and the like.

Pique also stoked the flames when he talked about Cristiano Ronaldo's infamous 30th birthday party during Barcelona's celebrations for winning the treble in 2015.

The centre back played part of his career in England with Manchester United but according to the report Shakira wants him to move to London not Manchester.

It would be a huge move if it happened.
