SCORE: Hotel staff are loving Jose's tendancy to tip large amounts

The moneybags Manchester United manager is staying at the five-star Lowry in Salford, where he has handed out tips of more than £100.

And a willingness to regularly stick his hand in his pocket to help low-paid staff has made him increasingly popular with the workers.

An insider said: “Jose leaves at the crack of dawn and comes back early in the evening.

"But he is always nothing but an absolute gent with both the front and back of house.

"He spends very little time in his suite, but he is not shy about putting his hand in his pocket.

"All the restaurant staff and waiters love Jose. He will always say ‘thank you’ and drop someone a £10 or £20 for the smallest of things.”

Mourinho previously moaned about a lack of privacy when he leaves the Lowry, with autograph hunters and photographers constantly milling around the car park.

His family are still living in west London, but Mourinho is said to be happy with the current arrangements.

United have no issues with it either, although they believe that their man will go flat-hunting this summer.

His Manchester City rival Pep Guardiola already has a flat close to the city centre.

Our Lowry source added: “Plenty would be gutted to see him leave.

"He was very generous over Christmas and there is a noticeable spring in the step when Jose asks for something – even from the City supporters working here.”

In November, the Daily Star Sunday revealed how United’s youngsters planned to mock Mourinho at their Christmas panto by portraying him as TV saddo Alan Partridge.

Some at the club compared him to Steve Coogan’s cringe-worthy comedy character who was forced to live by himself in a budget hotel.
