Emanuel Balbo, 26, suffered serious head injuries after being lifted in the air by fellow supporters of the same Argentinian team he supports and thrown onto concrete below.

Gut-wrenching footage showed him trying to escape as he was punched on the back of the head – and moments later lying face-down, barefoot and unconscious, on a concrete step several feet below the spot where he fell.

Today it emerged one of the men blamed for the horror incident is facing trial over the death of Emanuel’s younger brother, Agustin, hit by a speeding car in November 2012.

Grieving Emanuel’s mechanic dad, Raul, accused Oscar Gomez, who the police are hunting over the vile attack of inciting fellow fans to target his son after an altercation between the pair.

Gomez is said to have aroused the anger of Belgrano Athletic Club fans by fooling supporters into believing Emanuel was a rival Talleres fan when the 26-year-old recognised him in the stands and confronted him over his brother’s death.

Mr Balbo, who has been told his son has suffered irreversible brain damage, said: “That man killed my son and now he’s about to take another one from me.

"Emanuel went to the match with a friend and discovered Gomez there. There were insults and Gomez started shouting out that my son was really a Talleres supporter.

"Those who were with him began to attack him until they threw him over the side of the stands.”

State prosecutor Liliana Sanchez, appearing to back up Mr Balbo’s version of events, said: “There was a homicide in 2012.

"One of those involved in that incident was also involved in Saturday’s incident. It was the result of an existing conflict.”

Two people have already been arrested over the incident and Gomez, still on the run, is wanted for questioning.

He is one of two people said to have been in a car which killed Augustin Balbo, 14, and pal Enrique Diaz, 15, during an illegal race.

The teenage pair were on a motorbike which had nothing to do with the race.

A local police chief, speaking ahead of the arrest on Sunday of two of the three suspects following the weekend attack, said: “We have identified three men and are waiting for arrest warrants from the judge heading the probe.

"They are the people who can be seen in the images throwing Emanuel Balbo from the stands.”
