SECURITY ALERT: Staff and press crew were evacuated from Stamford Bridge

The hospitality area of the stadium in Fulham, London, was emptied as a precaution after a fire alarm went off in one of the kitchens.

Karthi Gnanasegaram, sports presenter for the BBC, said her crew were evacuated due to a "small fire".

She wrote on Twitter: "Impressive work from stewards at Stamford Bridge. Live show at 18.00 but crew were evacuated due to a small fire. Back in within 10 minutes."

Pictures showed dozens of staff and press crew waiting outside the east stand reception area of the 41,000 seat venue.

The club investigated the incident and have confirmed it was a false alarm.

The incident comes just hours before Chelsea are set to play their penultimate home game of the season against Watford.

It is not thought the incident will impact the 8pm kick-off time.

Antonio Conte's team were crowned Premier League champions at the weekend after beating West Brom 1-0 away from home.

The Blues secured their second title in three years with their victory on Friday – dethroning Leicester.

WINNERS: Chelsea have won the 2017 Premier League title

Chelsea will not be presented with the trophy until the final day of the season, when they take on Sunderland at Stamford Bridge.

But it appears Chelsea are revelling in their victory already after emblazoning "Home of the Champions" on their stadium today.
