Manchester City are closing in on the signing of left-back Benjamin Mendy from Monaco after he turned down the chance to join Liverpool.
The 22-year-old is highly sought after having enjoyed an excellent season during which he helped Monaco to win the Ligue 1 title and reach the semi-finals of the Champions League.
City are on the lookout for a new left-back, with Gael Clichy to be released when his contract expires at the end of this month, and Mendy is the club's preferred option.
As reported by Sky Sports, City's signing of Mendy is set to be formalised shortly.
Pep Guardiola's team have already signed one player from Monaco in midfielder Bernardo Silva, while they are close to sealing a deal for Benfica goalkeeper Ederson.
Although Mendy is widely seen as an extremely exciting young talent, the evidence suggests that there wasn't much to choose between the France international and his compatriot Clichy last season.
While Mendy won more tackles and made a higher amount of blocks per game, Clichy was more active with regards to making interceptions and clearances.
