Lyon have confirmed the signing of Fernando Marcal on a four-year contract.
Lyon have confirmed the signing of Fernando Marcal on a four-year contract.
Marcal joined Benfica in the summer of 2015, but failed to make a single appearance for the Portuguese giants.
Gaziantepspor signed the uncapped Brazilian on a season-long loan, before he joined Guingamp on a similar deal this term.
He impressed during his spell in Ligue 1, playing in 31 games – only one of which he didn’t complete, due to a red card.
Impressively, the left-back created more chances than any other Guingamp player during his loan (54), notching seven assists for the side which finished in 10th place.
Also averaging eight defensive actions per match (the third-most in the squad), Marcal seemingly caught the eye of one of the division's giants.
Lyon have agreed to sign the 28-year-old for a €4.5m transfer fee. Head of scouting Florian Maurice told the club's official website: "Marcal is a very interesting player.
"He's a complete defender, technical and able to bring a lot offensively. It is a great satisfaction that Marcal chose Lyon."
