Arsene Wenger must prioritise the signing of a new forward player like Thomas Lemar or Ousmane Dembele who can create chances and turn games according to ex-Arsenal Invincible Robert Pires.

The retired attacking midfielder told Squawka that he has a long list of targets that he would like his former club to pursue but that he trusts in the manager to bring in the players he needs to bring the Premier League title back to the Emirates.

"Who is at the top of the list? I have [Kylian] Mbappe. I have [Alexandre] Lacazette. I have [Ousmane] Dembele. I have Neymar," he said before picking out Monaco and France midfielder Thomas Lemar for special praise.

"He can play on the left, on the right, he has a very good ability with the ball," said Pies. "Very good assists. Very good crosses. He can make a success in the Premier League, especially if he signed for Arsenal."

Pires spent six seasons at Arsenal during which he won both the Premier League and FA Cup on two occasions, and reached the final of the Champions League in 2005. He was involved in 103 goals in 191 league appearances for the Gunners, setting up 41 assists and finding the back of the net 62 times.

The 43-year-old also found success with his country, winning the 1998 World Cup, Euro 2000 and the Confederations Cup with France in 2001 and 2003, and he thinks that Arsenal need to add more goals, guile and skill to their options in midfield to compete with the best.

"I don’t know what’s happening for Thomas Lemar for next season but I repeat, Lemar or [Ousmane] Dembele," he said. "They both have a very good profile to play for Arsenal and work every morning with Wenger."

Only three players completed more take ons in the Champions League last season than Dembele and Lemar: Lionel Messi, Marcelo and Neymar.
