Speculation
The Van Dijk departure saga has been one of the longest and most drawn-out stories of the summer so far, with a new club seemingly linked with a move for the talented Dutchman every day.
Liverpool had been rumoured to be close to a deal for Van Dijk several weeks ago, though negotiations eventually collapsed due to Jurgen Klopp and co. ‘tapping up’ the Saints star.
On the move
However, as per this evening’s report, the Reds, along with Arsenal and both Manchester clubs, look to have missed out on one of the Premier League’s most sought-after stars, with Van Dijk looking all set for a move to Stamford Bridge to join up with Antonio Conte.
Though no fee has been revealed by DiMarzio, the former Celtic standout will likely not come cheap, with a fee in the region of £50 million having been touted during Liverpool’s chase of the central defender.
