Ander Herrera set to sign sensational new contract with Man Utd worth £41.6m
Manchester United star Ander Herrera is close to signing a new lucrative deal

Herrera only has one year left on his current deal but the scale of his new contract can be revealed by the Daily Star Sunday today.

We understand the Spain international midfielder will sign a four-year contract at £200,000-a-week – PLUS bonuses.

That would guarantee fan favourite Herrera, 27, £41.6m over the length of the deal.

It will make him one of the highest-paid players at the club, with United hoping to announce Herrera’s new contract during the current tour of America.

He is regarded as a key player by United boss Jose Mourinho, who has made him the club’s vice-captain.

But Herrera will end up skippering United in most of their matches in the coming season.

That is because Michael Carrick, the new club captain following the departure of Wayne Rooney, will not be a regular starter.

Midfielder Carrick, 35, is no longer an automatic first choice.

Herrera has been linked with a move to Barcelona but there is no doubt that his future is at Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, the add-ons to Romelu Lukaku’s £75m fee after moving from Everton are understood to include £7.5m if Manchester United win the Premier League during his five-year contract.

Another £7.5m is likely to be paid if United win the Champions League.

Mourinho still wants to add two players to his squad and is hoping holding midfielder Nemanja Matic will be one of them.

Matic, 28, is on the way out at Chelsea but is also being linked with a move to Juventus.
