Alexis Sanchez should be sold by Arsenal says Alan Smith
ARSENAL boss Arsene Wenger has been told to sell contract rebel Alexis Sanchez by former striker Alan Smith.
Sanchez is linked with an exit from Arsenal, with his current deal at the Emirates up at the end of the upcoming season.
Manchester City and Bayern Munich have been the two sides who have expressed the most interest in the Chile international.
Wenger has repeatedly said Sanchez will not be sold despite the possibility of him leaving on a free transfer next summer.
Smith, who scored 115 goals for Arsenal, has a different point of view to that of the legendary manager.
He believes the board will want to cash in on Sanchez and an unhappy player should not be kept at the club.
"Alexis Sanchez is a big shadow hanging over the Emirates," Smith told talkSPORT.
"Arsene Wenger says he is determined not to sell him, but he seems determined to leave.
"If you've got an unhappy player, a bit like (Philippe) Coutinho at Liverpool if he desperately wants to go to Barcelona, that's not a great situation to have in the dressing room.
"It happens time and time again at Arsenal.
"What the owners would think about keeping a player you could get £60m for and then letting him go for nothing in 12 months time, I don't know.
"For me, it's a no-brainer, you've got to let him go, get the money and move on."
Sanchez scored 30 goals in all competitions for Arsenal last season but failed to help them qualify for the Champions League.
