The Manchester United star was subbed early into the Red Devils' 3-0 win over Basel in the Champions League tonight.

He had been promoted to captain for the night but it didn't last long after he injured himself stretching for the ball.

While it looks bad for the Red Devils' record singing there is good news as Jose Mourinho's men got their campaign off to a flyer with three points.

But Pogba could be out of action for some time.

Daily Record reporter Duncan Castles revealed that the Frenchman was on crutches.

He tweeted: "Paul Pogba on crutches as he leaves Old Trafford."

Marouane Fellaini came off the bench to replace Pogba and earned rave reviews for his performance.

Castles continued: "Who's that scoring another important European goal for Manchester United?
Marouane Fellaini.

"Marouane Fellaini creates Manchester United's third.

"Man of the match performance from Paul Pogba's replacement. #MUNBAS"

United fans will be hoping Pogba's exit from Old Trafford is more of a precaution than a necessity.

The £89m man has been in good form this season and has helped the Red Devils' good start to the season.

But a serious hamstring injury could see him side-lined for a number of weeks as Mourinho and his men gear up for a busy month.
