Mohamed Salah misses Liverpool training through illness but could still play against Sevilla

Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah was absent from training today through illness but could still be involved in tomorrow night's Champions League game at home to Sevilla.

Salah has made an impressive start to his Liverpool career since joining from Roma but didn't participate in today's session at Melwood.

However, the 25-year-old could still feature against Sevilla.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp told the club's official website: "Mo, we sent him home tonight, that's right. He was in; Mo said he can train, the doc said he could train. But then I asked the doc what would be best for him and he said [it would be] if he doesn't have to train because he has a little bit of a sore throat.

"It should not be that serious, so we sent him home so he cannot spread the virus, if it is a virus.

"In this moment we expect him back tomorrow morning for normal training."

If Liverpool were to be without Salah against Sevilla then it would be a significant blow. The Egyptian has been in fine form so far this season – he has scored three goals and provided two assists in six games across all competitions.

Tomorrow night's game could also see midfielder Philippe Coutinho return to the squad for the first time since his proposed transfer to Barcelona failed to materialise.

Liverpool will be especially determined to prevail past Sevilla after being thrashed 5-0 by Manchester City last weekend, with Klopp looking for a major improvement from his side.
