Scott McDonald's late strike fired Dundee United up to second in the Scottish Championship standings after they defeated Morton 2-1 at Tannadice Park.
James Keatings broke the deadlock in the 65th minute when he thrashed a left-footed volley past Derek Gaston, despite the goalkeeper getting a hand to it, before Bob McHugh levelled for Morton from close range.
Ross Forbes whipped in a ball to the back post and found Ricki Lamie, who headed it back into the danger area where McHugh was on hand to to stab in from four yards.
But the hosts, who always looked to be on top of Morton, claimed victory when striker McDonald pounced after Mark Durnan's shot hit the post in the 83rd minute.
