Paul Pogba backed to continue Manchester United improvement alongside Nemanja Matic

Paul Scholes has tipped Paul Pogba to improve even more for Manchester United once he returns from injury, as playing with Nemanja Matic elevated him to top form.

The French midfielder was in fine form prior to being sidelined with a hamstring problem, benefiting from the arrival of Matic from Chelsea. Though there is still no return date confirmed for the 24-year-old, the Red Devils legend believes he will continue to shine alongside the Serbian anchor man.

"I think the addition of Matic has helped him and given him that bit of freedom – he's scored a couple of goals already and a couple of assists," said Scholes to reporters at the Premier Futsal tournament in Dubai via Goal.

"Obviously before his injury you could see United were winning, and winning quite comfortably. He's playing well and hopefully his injury is not as serious as it could be."

Pogba scored two goals in four appearances and created nine chances before being sidelined with injury, and United will be hoping that the Frenchman will not need to undergo surgery.

"They have been talking possibly about an operation but hopefully that's not the case and he'll be back soon," continued Scholes.

"Last season was tough for him but there was always going to be a settling-in period. There were two or three other players along with him who took a little while to settle down.

"With Matic coming in this year and the other players a year down the road I think we'll see the improvement."

Pogba endured a difficult first season with Manchester United after joining for a £89m as the Red Devils struggled to find their form int he league. Since the arrival of Matic from Chelsea, however, the Frenchman has been allowed more freedom and has flourished in midfield.

United, though they were tipped to rue the loss of their star Frenchman, have maintained impressive form both domestically and in Europe. The Red Devils are currently joint-top of the Premier League alongside crosstown rivals Manchester City, and they are fresh off a 4-1 win against CSKA Moscow that saw Belgian superstar Romelu Lukaku strike twice.

Manager Jose Moruinho has ruled out any suggested that he could be out with injury for up to 12 weeks, but is it unclear if he will return after the upcoming international break as he has also been excluded from France's squads. United's first match after returning from the break will be against Liverpool at Anfield on October 14.
