Liverpool will 'almost certainly' make January approach to sign Naby Keita early - report
Liverpool will almost certainly try and sign Naby Keita in January

LIVERPOOL will almost certainly ask to sign Naby Keita in January, according to reports.

Keita has agreed to Liverpool next summer after Jurgen Klopp tried to bring him to Anfield during the transfer window.

But the Liverpool ECHO claim the Reds will ask RB Leipzig if they can take him early.

Although it is suggested the Bundesliga side are likely to try and keep their midfielder - even offered more money during the winter.

Keita's move was one of the sagas of the summer after Liverpool tried to sign him for around £75m.

But they eventually did a deal for him to join the club next summer due to a release clause that activates next year.

However the midfielder has struggled this term since signing off on the agreement.

He was sent off for a Sadio Mane-like tackle in the league and was slammed by the boss for his performance during the Champions League defeat to Besiktas.

Ralph Hasenhuttl questioned his commitment and suggested he could dropped for upcoming games.

"Naby was not good today, maybe it would have been better not to have taken him," he said.

"For me, as a coach, it is important to see who I can rely on at such moments, which players stand up and who is ready to fight against what is going on on the field."

Liverpool have also suffered a dip in form since the transfer window closed and were beaten 5-0 by Manchester City and held by Burnley in the league.

They have taken just two points in the Champions League and are out of the EFL Cup.

However victory on Sunday against Newcastle could move them back up to third if other results go their way.
