Werner has eyes for Manchester United

Timo Werner says he still dreams of playing for Manchester United as he focuses on winning trophies in Germany with RB Leipzig.

The talented German international, who has already scored five goals in six appearances this season, revealed he grew up watching the Red Devils during their trophy laden years under Sir Alex Ferguson.

And while he is fully committed to Leipzig, the 21-year-old former VfB Stuttgart front-man says his goal is to win silverware no matter where that may be, having previously been linked with both Liverpool and Barcelona.

He told Sky Sports: “As a young boy, you always dream of the big club you’d like to play for.

“It used to be Manchester United under Alex Ferguson, who always won. A young boy is always a fan of those who win.

“You can’t just drop something like that. When it’s going well, you dream of playing somewhere else.”

And on his more pressing goals, Werner explained: “We want to win some trophies.

“I don’t know if this will happen with RB but the chances are good this year that we can get a trophy.”

Leipzig are currently three points adrift of Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund, ahead of facing Stuttgart on Saturday.
