Cesar Azpilicueta believes Chelsea have taken the "first step" towards regaining their confidence following a turbulent few weeks.
The 28-year-old's comments followed the defending Premier League champions much-needed win over Watford on Saturday.
Antonio Conte's men at one point trailed The Hornets, before Azpilicueta registered the all-important goal to seal victory, and he feels it was a turning point.
"We were three games without winning so it's important to step up and get back to winning ways," he told the club's official website.
"We know it's a long season and we will have ups and downs. This has been a difficult period but this is the first step to get out and get our confidence up.
"It was good because I came on the pitch and did my job by scoring two goals, the three points is good for the team.
"I'm very happy, mostly for the three points in a difficult moment, and now we must focus on the next game."
Chelsea's season so far
The champions have suffered three defeats across their opening nine league outings, with the most recent coming in back-to-back matches against current leaders Manchester City and lowly Crystal Palace; they only lost five games throughout the whole of last season in the Premier League.
As a consequence many were starting to question whether Chelsea have got what it takes to successfully defend their crown especially with the competition – both Manchester clubs and Tottenham Hotspur – looking strong.
Next up for the Blues in the Premier League is a trip Bournemouth before welcoming United and former boss Jose Mourinho to Stamford Bridge on November 5.
