Goalless draw not good enough to take Accrington top

Posted Sunday, November 12, 2017 by PA

Accrington missed the chance to move top of Sky Bet League Two after a 0-0 draw at Cambridge.

The U's enjoyed the better of the chances in a quiet first half, with Uche Ikpeazu going closest in the 33rd minute with a shot on the turn which was beaten away by Aaron Chapman.

Jabo Ibehre fired over after taking down a diagonal ball into the box, while Ikpeazu also received an Ibehre knock down and fired at Chapman.

Accrington went close just before the interval when Kayden Jackson's powerful centre only just evaded the stretching Sean McConville.

Accrington striker Billy Kee smashed a tremendous effort from an improbable position off the underside of the crossbar, before Cambridge immediately went up the other end and Jevani Brown fired narrowly wide from outside the box.

David Forde was called upon to preserve Cambridge's point in the 73rd minute, keeping out Kee's close-range effort from Jackson's centre.
