Bayer Leverkusen end Stuttgart's 11-month unbeaten home run

Stuttgart lost at home for the first time in 2017 as Bayer Leverkusen maintained their record of scoring in every Bundesliga game this season with a 2-0 victory.

The visitors had edged the opening exchanges and took the lead in the 20th minute when teenager Kai Havertz timed his run perfectly to side-foot Leon Bailey's pass under goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler for his first goal of the season.

Stuttgart started the second half brightly and striker Simon Terodde was only inches away from turning in Tassos Donis' superb cross from the right.

A stunning first-time strike from Emiliano Insua brought an equally impressive save from Bernd Leno and the Leverkusen goalkeeper did well to keep out a Berkay Ozcan shot shortly afterwards.

Insua was denied again, while Lars Bender's glancing header was not too far away at the other end.

A poor challenge from Santiago Ascacibar on Julian Brandt sparked an on-field melee and saw the Argentinian booked and the Leverkusen player forced off through injury.

Visiting manager Heiko Herrlich was sent from his technical area for throwing a water bottle in frustration but his side doubled their advantage with 10 minutes left as Bender powered home a header from Bailey's outswinging corner.

Leverkusen, who move up to fourth in the table and are now 10 games unbeaten, should have added a third when Dominik Kohr screwed his shot wide.
