Stanley move up to fourth after Chesterfield rout

Accrington Stanley climbed back into the Skt Bet League Two play-off places after a 4-0 win over Chesterfield that saw the visitors slip into the drop zone.

Goals from Mark Hughes, Sean McConville, an own goal from debutant goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale and a Billy Kee late strike sent Stanley into fourth place.

Accrington opened the scoring after 19 minutes when defender Hughes had time to take a touch and fire the ball into the roof of the net from six yards out from Kayden Jackson's dangerous cross.

Chesterfield debutant Josh Kay, on loan from Barnsley, saw his 20-yard strike sail just over but Stanley doubled the lead after 32 minutes.

Winger McConville got the ball on the edge of the area and his curling strike went in off the underside of the woodwork.

The third came two minutes after the re-start when Bournemouth loan goalkeeper Ramsdale allowed a seemingly harmless Jackson strike from the right to squirm into the net.

It needed a couple of superb saves from keeper Aaron Chapman to stop Kay and Zavon Hines but Ramsdale was at fault again as he could not hold onto a strike after 89 minutes and Kee had an easy tap in for his 15th goal of the season.
