Alvaro Morata joined Chelsea from Real Madrid in the summer
That's according to Spanish news outlet Diario Gol who say the Spaniard delivered the warning shot before he was transferred to the Blues.
Real are languishing in La Liga despite securing title and Champions League glory last season.
They are a whopping 16 points behind pace setters Barcelona and seven points behind Atletico Madrid in second spot.
Morata was only a peripheral figure at the Bernabeu before being sold for around £60m.
But despite his bit-part status, he's been badly missed this season.
The Spain international bagged 15 top flight goals for Real last term and has already racked up 11 for Chelsea.
Zidane is feeling the heat in Madrid but insists he won't splash the cash this month.
"I don't need anyone and that's that," he said.
"I don't want anybody. We have a squad, we started with them and I believe in my players.
"There are always difficult times during the season, which is what you're trying to convey, but I don't think like that.
"There's everything to play for and we'll see what happens at the end of the season, which is when things are analysed."
Real face Villarreal in La Liga on Saturday having only managed a 2-2 draw with Celta Vigo last week.
