Ayr replaced Raith at the top of Ladbrokes League One with a 4-1 win at Queen’s Park.
Craig Moore’s early strike set Ayr on their way to a first victory in three matches and Alan Forrest doubled their advantage just before the break.
Craig McGuffie’s late brace before Adam Cummins’ consolation sealed the victory as Ayr moved above Raith, who were held to a goalless draw at Alloa.
Third-placed Arbroath also had to settle for a 0-0 stalemate on the road after being held by Airdrie.
Arbroath had been looking for a fourth successive victory but, despite Airdrie finishing with 10 men following Jordan McGregor’s late red card, they could not find a breakthrough.
Forfar moved off the foot of the table after beating East Fife 2-1 to record their second successive win.
Matthew Aitken netted a 77th-minute winner after Mark Docherty’s penalty for the hosts on the stroke of half-time had cancelled out Dylan Easton’s spot-kick.
Forfar climb above Queen’s Park and to within a point of Albion Rovers, who were beaten 3-1 at home by Stranraer.
In-form Angus Beith continued his good form with a brace either side of a strike from team-mate Scott Robertson. Alan Reid had netted a 53rd-minute equaliser for Albion.
