Danny Cowley hails Lincoln’s resilience

Danny Cowley praised his Lincoln side’s never-say-die attitude as Michael Bostwick grabbed a stoppage-time equaliser in a thrilling encounter with Swindon.

The midfielder salvaged a point for the Imps in the second of three added-on minutes, heading home Sam Habergham’s corner.

Lee Frecklington had earlier put Lincoln ahead from the penalty spot after Matt Preston had seen red for Swindon, only for the visitors to deservedly hit back through goals from Marc Richards and Ollie Banks before half-time.

“We’re disappointed with the way we played in the first half and we didn’t play with our usual intensity and energy,” explained Cowley.

“If we were weaker, though, we could have given in with 10 minutes to go thinking it wasn’t going to be our day, but these lads never give up and showed their resilience once more.

“My teams never give up and we have shown that with the amount of late goals we have scored.

“There’s a reason why Swindon have won 10 games on the road this season and they will be up there come the end.

“But after they went down to 10 men so early I guess you have to call it two points dropped.”

Swindon manager David Flitcroft was left disappointed his side could not hang on.

“It was a poor decision to give the penalty away because Reice Charles-Cook still had the chance to make the save,” he said.

“However, we found ourselves down to 10 men and now it’s going to cost us even more because Matt Preston is going to miss a number of games.

“We kept our shape, though, and gave everything to the cause and I thought we had withstood the pressure.

“We just switched off for a micro-second and got punished. It’s not nice because I thought the lads deserved to hang on and get all three points with the way they fought.”
