Adams hails free-scoring Plymouth

Manager Derek Adams was delighted to see Plymouth sharing the goals around once more as they won a six-goal thriller against AFC Wimbledon 4-2.

Goals from Graham Carey, David Fox, Ryan Taylor and Ruben Lameiras earned victory while for Wimbledon, Lyle Taylor scored twice but then missed a penalty.

Adams said: “I was delighted tonight, as I thought we started the game very well. We started on the front foot and got a foothold in the game very early. We scored the first goal and it gave us a platform to go forward and play.

“To score four goals and hit the woodwork as we did, Fox getting a goal as well with a tremendous strike, Ryan Taylor again, Lameiras and Carey, your front three scoring goals as well as our midfielders.

“We had (Jamie) Ness scoring the other week, (Antoni) Sarcevic the week before that. I think getting the goals we have all around the team is helping us.

“We were playing ever so well at times and passing the ball well.

“We allowed them back into the game to make it 3-2 through a terrible error in our 18-yard box. We didn’t need to make it and we did. It gave them the opportunity to get back into the game but quickly after that we made it 4-2.”

Argyle opened the scoring through Carey after 16 minutes. Lyle Taylor equalised for the visitors but Fox put the Pilgrims back in front almost immediately and Ryan Taylor made the lead 3-1 just before the break.

Lyle Taylor grabbed his second of the night after a defensive mix-up but the Greens responded quickly thanks to a well-taken goal from Lameiras before Remi Matthews denied Lyle Taylor from the spot.

AFC Wimbledon manager Neil Ardley was left ruing missed chances and defensive mistakes and felt his side could have scored four or five on the night.

Ardley said: “They are in good form and they came at us at home, full of confidence, and we were a little bit stretched at the start.

“We have had some great chances today, and we could have scored four or five which is very rare away from home.

“But obviously when you concede four goals away from home you are always going to struggle. It is hard as there is a mistake in there and an unfortunate one in there.

“We are all doing our best; we have had a mad 10 days on the back of a fantastic January. As the old saying goes, a week or 10 days is a long time in football. Ten days later everything has gone wrong.

“The games are coming thick and fast and we haven’t had a chance to stem the flow. We tried today, but the boys conceded some bad goals that have left us chasing the game.”
