Peterborough boss Grant McCann hoping to back up Blackpool draw with home wins

Grant McCann believes that Peterborough’s 1-1 draw at Blackpool can only be considered a good result if they win their next two games at home.

Jack Marriott gave Posh the lead midway through the first half, but Blackpool hit back through Nathan Delfouneso on the stroke of half-time.

The draw is Peterborough’s third in a row and leaves them five points off the play-off places.

And McCann said: “We’ve said it for the past three weeks now, three draws is not what we want but these will probably turn into good draws. These two home games coming up are crucial for us to take three points.

“A point away from home is always good but the position we are in, we are playing catch-up a little bit. Every point for us is precious. Ideally we would have liked the three.

“We feel as if the goal was a blatant handball, I don’t know how the referee has missed it. Nathan Delfouneso has told a few of our players he can’t believe he got away with it. Some of the decisions were ridiculous for both teams.

“Ultimately that decision gets them a goal right on half-time but the boys rallied again. It’s a difficult surface but we created numerous chances to win the game. (We) Just couldn’t take them.

“We can’t be too down about it, we have to dust ourselves down and be fresh for these next two home games coming up.”

Peterborough were in front after 21 minutes through the league’s top scorer Marriott, who was left unmarked in the middle and nodded in Marcus Maddison’s cross for his 19th league goal of the season.

Despite dominating the half, Posh failed to add to their tally and Blackpool levelled in stoppage time. Viv Solomon-Otabor’s cross was turned in from a yard out by Delfouneso.

It was the Seasiders who had the best chance to grab a winner after 68 minutes as Solomon-Otabor’s cross found Armand Gnanduillet, who headed just wide from six yards.

Blackpool boss Gary Bowyer said: “I thought (in the) first half we looked a bit leggy and we conceded a soft goal.

“But the response was terrific from them and we scored the best goal in the game. The way we then started the second half was fantastic.

“We just lacked a little bit of care in the final third. We certainly backed up our win at Wigan today.

“The players deserve an enormous amount of credit for the way they went about it.”
