Why 30-goal Mo Salah is scoring at a better rate under Jurgen Klopp than any other manager

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has credited manager Jurgen Klopp's tactical decisions as the reasons for his prolific goalscoring form.

The Egyptian netted his 30th goal in all competitions last week as the Reds demolished Porto 5-0 in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 fixture.

It has been a bright start from the 25-year-old in his debut season on Merseyside, having recorded 22 goals and eight assists in the league.

Salah trails Spurs marksman Harry Kane by just one goal in the Premier League top-scorers list, but remains on course to take the award for the Golden Boot down to the wire.

The former Roma and Chelsea winger, who has played under managers such as Jose Mourinho and Luciano Spalletti, has excelled as part of a Liverpool front-three that includes the likes of Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane. They are the attacking trio who have been involved in the most goals in the Champions League so far, with 19 scored between the three of them.

Salah explained how Klopp's tactics have propelled him to the lethal scoring form he currently demonstrates - which is why he is having his best-scoring season so far under the German.

"With the boss here, I play a little bit closer to the goal, more so than at any other club or more than any of my other coaches have asked me to," Salah told Liverpool's official matchday programme.

"I am always in front of the goal to give me the opportunity to score. The manager is always telling me to stay close to the goal in training."

Salah to make Liverpool history?

Salah is just one goal short of Luis Suarez's best-scoring season of 31 goals in 2013/14, and three away from Fernando Torres's best season of 33 goals in 2007/08. Suarez's best was achieved in 37 games - Salah achieved it in 30, and there are still several months left in the season.

The Egyptian continued: "I don't want to say too much because we still have a long way to go in the season and I don't want to give too much away. But yes, it's something we have worked on in the training sessions.

"You cannot score 10 goals from 10 balls - that's impossible and I know that I have missed many chances too this season. But I am trying to improve.

"I am always trying to see my weaknesses and then work on them and I am always trying to score in different ways.

"The coaches help me so much to do that and I also work hard alone after the training sessions."

Liverpool will next face West Ham at home at Anfield this Saturday as they look to cement their place in the top four.
