PAUL POGBA reckons Jose Mourinho has made him a scapegoat for Manchester United's lacklustre displays.

The France international feels he is being singled out for criticism in training and is taking the blame for some poor results and performances in recent weeks.

Pogba was left shocked when Mourinho left him out of his starting line-up for Wednesday's Champions League clash in Seville.

The French superstar was soon called into action to replace Ander Herrera after the Spaniard broke down injured in the first half of the goalless draw.

But Mourinho claimed before the Sevilla game he had "doubts" about Pogba after he had ruled himself out of last weekend's FA Cup win at Huddersfield with a mystery illness.

And the Manchester United boss then refused to praise his £90m midfielder after the dour last-16 clash in Spain.

Mourinho has already warned Pogba that a massive price tag and exorbitant wages won't guarantee him a regular place in his side.

But Pogba is less than impressed with Mourinho and fears he has hung him out to dry in public.

Mourinho is now debating whether or not to start with Pogba in Sunday's crunch clash with Chelsea at Old Trafford, or keep faith with Scott McTominay following his recent impressive performances.

Mourinho has poured praise on McTominay and has urged the media to give him more attention.

While the youngster admits he has to repay the faith in him after getting his chance to shine.

"Obviously it's so important for me to repay the manager whenever he puts trust in me in these games," McTominay said.

"The whole team put in a real shift for the manager and going back to Old Trafford we're in a good position.

"I wouldn't say the best position because we didn't win, but we're in a good position because we can go back and fight for every ball and hopefully we can progress to the quarter-finals.

"We're confident against any team we play. Hopefully we go back to Old Trafford and we can go through there."
