Adams delight as Makasi marks first Plymouth start with goal

Plymouth boss Derek Adams was thrilled to see West Ham loanee Moses Makasi mark his first start for the club with a goal in their 1-1 draw at Fleetwood.
Makasi was handed the chance following an injury to former Fleetwood hero Antoni Sarcevic and marked his start with a 15th-minute opener.
That strike was cancelled out by Paddy Madden’s 55th-minute leveller but Adams was happy with a point as he in-form side – who were chasing a seventh successive win – remain sixth in the table.
He said: “I am delighted. He has waited for his time coming from West Ham.
“That is because the players that have played in his position have done well. I think he has come in and been able to score us the goal that got us a point.”
Adams revealed he had informed 22-year-old Makasi he would be starting at the start of the week.
“I think it is important when you make a debut for any club you are given the time to think about it,” he said.
“We worked on it. He knew he was playing from early on the week.
“He is a talented individual, he is only a youngster but he can finish like that.”
Adams is pleased with the position his side, who were promoted last term, are in as they head into the final 10 games.
He said: “We’ve had a tremendous season and I’m delighted with 10 games to go to be sitting in sixth position.
“I could not ask for anymore, every Plymouth Argyle fan will be delighted with the position we are in.”
Fleetwood, despite battling back, are still in the relegation zone and one point off safety.
However, John Sheridan, who is unbeaten in his two games as Town head coach, says this draw and the previous point with MK Dons show the players have responded to his appointment.
He said: “From two games I feel we should have six points.
“But we have not, the performances show the lads have responded to me coming in.
“We are playing a different shape and a few players who probably did not expect to play today so they have performed really well.
“I am chuffed to bits. That sort of performance will win us more games than we lose.
“It was a good performance and again I’m disappointed we haven’t won the game.
“Obviously playing against a good team in Plymouth who are doing well and one of the most in-form teams.
“The response from the players has been magnificent.
“It was very similar to MK.
“We go a goal behind and we have reacted really well.”
While Sheridan may have been full of praise for his players, he was less impressed with referee Darren Handley who failed to give what he thought were two clear penalties.
Conor McAleny’s strike appeared to hit Yann Songo’o on the arm while Kyle Dempsey’s cross also appeared to hit Aaron Taylor-Sinclair’s arm in the box.
Sheridan said: “The first one is a definite penalty.
“The second one is unbelievable how it is not given.
“He’s giving balls that are rolling out half an inch and he’s seen that for a throw-in.
“It is diabolical how he has not seen them and those are the things we need, where we are and what we are trying to do.
“Those little things are massive for us.”
