Pep Guardiola: I could be at Manchester City till 2028

Pep Guardiola has revealed that he could remain as the Manchester City manager for the next ten years.

The Catalonian's contract expires at the end of next season and he is yet to extend his current three-year deal.

Having not remained at a football club for more than four seasons, the City hierarchy were perhaps starting to feel a little anxious with the 47-year-old fast approaching his final contracted season.

Guardiola, however, has since reassured his current club of his commitment, admitting he does not rule out a 10-year stint in Manchester.

Speaking to South American TV station Directv Sport, according to the Mirror, Guardiola said: "I have discovered that Manchester City is a much bigger club that people outside think it is.

"It does not have a history behind it at the level of titles - but it does have the desire to become winners.

"I do not rule out continuing to lead in 10 years. It will depend how I feel and if they want me.

"It also depends on my family. I am not alone. I cannot live without my family. I will not go somewhere alone."

Were Guardiola to actually see out another 10 years as head coach of the North West club, he would become their longest-serving manager in Premier League history by a comfortable margin, and the second-longest since World War II. Les McDowall, who was in charge at City for 13 years up till 1963, is currently Man City's longest-serving post-war manager of the club.

In 2012, Guardiola stepped down as head coach of Barcelona after four years with the Catalan club - winning the La Liga title three times and the Champions League twice - before taking up a position at Bayern Munich, where he won three consecutive Bundesliga trophies, after a year-long sabbatical.

Again, Guardiola walked away from the club, before taking up his position at Manchester City, where he now looks destined for the Premier League title at the second time of asking.

The Citizens face an away trip to Stoke City on Monday night, about which Guardiola has already expressed his frustration, as they look to extend their lead at the top back to 16 points.
