Manchester City Medical Staff Stopped To Help Injured Woman After Coach Attack

The welcome at Anfield for Manchester City players on Wednesday night was supposed to shake them up and it may well have succeeded on the pitch. Off the pitch though the medical staff wouldn't let what happen stop them from doing their jobs.

Manchester City got quite the welcome at Anfield earlier in the week. As the bus arrived with the players fans lined the streets with flares and banners and sang their hearts out to start the atmosphere early.

Unfortunately some fans took things too far and bottles were thrown at the coach and it windows were smashed as it had to be replaced once the City players left to get into Anfield.

They didn't fare much better than their vehicle either with Jurgen Klopp's side running in three goals in the first half, putting the game and potentially tie to bed very early on.

After the match though the club's medical staff were heroes. Just yards from where the previous bus had been pelted the team witnessed a Liverpool fan get run over by a car, as per the Manchester Evening News, with medical staff getting off to help the fan until an ambulance arrived.

An onlooker told the paper, "They were amazing. It was at the exact spot where the bus had been battered by bottles and bricks, but they didn't hesitate, and helped the poor girl out.

"City should be very proud of their staff - it says a lot for them as a club that they were prepared to help after being given such a frightening welcome."

Liverpool had asked fans to gather on the bus route to welcome both clubs in a 'friendly, respectful and considerate manner,' and the Liverpool bus was allowed the luxury before the later ugly scenes.

At his pre match press conference ahead of this weekend's Merseyside derby Jurgen Klopp apologised for what happened saying, "I have to say apologies again for how things happened before the game.

"It is so strange. You go with your own bus through the crowd and it feels fantastic and it's great. It's support, it's passion. We come into the stadium and the first thing I heard was they had smashed the bus of Manchester City and it kills everything.

"You can't feel it anymore. You give everyone the opportunity to do something good and because of a few idiots it might never happen again."

It's like the teacher telling the class the naughty ones have ruined it for everyone else.
