Bad news for Arsenal: Henrikh Mkhitaryan ruled out for the rest of the season

Henrikh Mkhitaryan's injury nightmare

Henrikh Mkhitaryan made the move from Old Trafford to the Emirates back in January whilst Alexis Sanchez went the other way.

It is fair to say that Mkhitaryan has impressed far more than his Chilean counterpart but the Armenian's season is all but over.

Mkhitaryan sustained an injury during Arsenal's 4-1 win over CSKA Moscow on Thursday and on Tuesday afternoon, it was revealed that he has suffered ligament damage (Mirror).

Mkhitaryan won't be fit for selection until after the Premier League season has already ended meaning the only way we could possibly see Mkhi back in action is if Arsenal reach the Europa League final.

What will Mkhi miss?

Arsenal were knocked out of the FA Cup at the first hurdle this season and therefore have no domestic cup games remaining this term.

The Gunners do however have six league games left to play as well as Thursday's Europa League quarter final second leg and then the subsequent semi finals.

This means that Mkhitaryan is likely to miss 9 matches between now and the end of the season.

The 29 year old will also miss the opportunity to impress at his former club, Man United, when the Gunners travel to Old Trafford on April 29.

Can Arsenal win the Europa League without Mkhitaryan?

Arsenal have one foot in the semi finals of the Europa League considering they travel to Moscow on Thursday night with a three goal lead.

Arsenal are then likely to face one of Lazio, Atletico Madrid or Marseille.

The Gunners would be without Mkhitaryan and January signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who is ineligible for Europa League action.

Whoever Arsenal face in the semi finals will be tough and with Mkhitaryan out, Welbeck and Iwobi are sure to play.

None of this makes terribly good reading if you are an Arsenal fan…
