Rochdale and Oldham play out goalless draw

Rochdale and Oldham had to settle for a point apiece as they played out a goalless draw in a Sky Bet League One relegation battle at the Crown Oil Arena.
Rochdale were the better side throughout the first half and they were awarded a penalty after 33 minutes after Anthony Gerrard fouled Joe Thompson in the box.
There was a slight delay before the spot kick could be taken, as an Oldham fan ran onto the pitch and tried to approach the referee, but Latics defender Gerrard was on hand to stop him and he was taken away by stewards.
But Latics goalkeeper Johnny Placide dived away to his left to save Joe Rafferty’s kick.
It was more of the same in the second half, and Rochdale thought they had found a goal when Calvin Andrew had the ball in the net, but the effort was ruled out for offside.
The result leaves Rochdale 21st in the table, one point from safety, with Oldham just above them in 20th.
