Starsport can reveal the whopping transfer fund has been mentioned to potential replacements to Wenger, with Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri still the top candidate.

Wenger's dream of ending his 22-year Gunners reign with victory in the Europa League was dashed on Thursday when a 1-0 defeat at Atletico Madrid saw them knocked out at the semi-finals.

Lifting a first European trophy would have seen Arsenal return to next season's Champions League.

But all Wenger and his players have to play for now in his remaining three league games is keeping sixth place ahead of Sunday's visit from Burnley.

It will be Wenger's Emirates farewell and the Frenchman admits it will be an emotionally-charged occasion.

He said: "I'm very, very sad to leave the club with that Europa League exit.

"All the love stories come to an end and they do not always finish well. Most of the time they do not finish well.

"I feel sad because I love this club and what it represents and you don't leave 22 years of your life and walk away easy.

"But I have dealt with difficult situations in my life and I will do it again."

Arsenal are planning a pre-match guard of honour followed by a post-match presentation.

Stars to have played 100 or more games under Wenger have been invited while fans will also be given commemorative T-shirts.

The task now is for Arsenal's Class of 2018 to pick themselves up off the floor in order to ensure Wenger leaves his home ground on a high.

Keeper David Ospina said: "There is a sadness in the dressing room because he deserved to reach the final.

"We all wanted another final for him. He deserved it because he has done so many very important things for this club.

"We all had a reason to make him happy."
