Liverpool complete signing of Fabinho after agreeing £44m fee with Monaco

Liverpool have confirmed a transfer deal with Monaco to sign the transfer of Fabinho.

It is widely reported the agreement is worth around £44 million to Les Monegasques. That will make him the third-most expensive signing in Liverpool's history, after Virgil van Dijk and Naby Keita.

The 24-year-old Brazilian midfielder made 34 Ligue 1 appearances this season, scoring seven goals and assisting another three.

In terms of defensive contributions, no teammate won more tackles per game than Fabinho (3.4) in the French top flight this season as Monaco finished second.

Liverpool are expected to lose central midfielder Emre Can on a free transfer this summer when his contract expires, with Juventus having stated publicly that they plan to sign him.

Fabinho always wanted move to "giant" Liverpool
"I am really excited about this move," Fabinho told Liverpool's club website.

"This is something that I always wanted – this is a giant of a team. The infrastructures of the club look exceptional.

"A football club of this size coming after my services, I didn't have to think that much about coming over.

"I will try to create my own history at this football club. Hopefully, on a personal level, I'm able to win titles with this club.

"I will try to grow and learn and improve myself, and to be part of the club's history."

"We will never forget you!"
Monaco issued a statement themselves, reading: "AS Monaco announces an agreement with Liverpool for the transfer of Fabinho as from 1 July 2018!

"The whole club wishes the best for next season to 'Fabi' under his next colors of [Liverpool]. We will never forget you!"

Fabinho, who Monaco signed permanently in 2013 from Portuguese club Rio Ave, is a defensive midfielder who previously played at right-back. He has previously spent time on loan with Real Madrid.

In 2017, he won the Ligue 1 title with Monaco.

He missed out on the Brazil squad set to participate in this summer's World Cup in Russia.
