Pochettino is moving increasingly further away from Real Madrid

Real Madrid's hopes of replacing Zinedine Zidane with Mauricio Pochettino appear to be fading, with the Argentine coach seemingly moving increasingly further away from taking up the vacancy at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu this summer.

Zidane left Florentino Perez stunned by his decision to resign on Thursday, and whilst the club had identified a number of future coaching targets, those in power weren't ready to have to make a change so quickly.

It emerged that the former Espanyol coach was Los Blancos' first choice, although prising him away from the North London club would prove difficult after he signed a long-term contract extension just days before the surprise events unfolded in the Spanish capital.

Daniel Levy is known for being a remarkably tough negotiator when it comes to players, and this has certainly carried over into his resolve to ensure the former Paris Saint-Germain defender remains where he is.

A renewed move was made by the European champions on Wednesday, but once again they were met with the immovable wall that is the Premier League club's chairman.

It was intimated to Los Blancos that not even for 100 million euros could they secure the services of Pochettino.

Despite suggestions to the contrary early on, there isn't a release clause embedded into the newly signed contract that would allow Pochettino to leave Tottenham, and with the ink on the paperwork barely even dry, it seems impossible that this move will go ahead.

Levy had previously made assurances to his coach that the team will be strengthened during the summer transfer window in order to sustain a true title challenge.

Such assurances are understood to have greatly encouraged Pochettino, although Los Blancos will not close the doors to him and he's expected to coach at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu eventually, even if it's not possible this season.
