Everton: A luxury client for Barcelona this summer

Barcelona should consider a way of formally honouring Everton this summer as the Premier League side have become a valued customer at the Camp Nou, sending a total of 52.6 million euros to the club in exchange for players that Ernesto Valverde was keen to offload.

Having already taken Lucas Digne, Everton signed Yerry Mina and Andre Gomes on Thursday after some complicated negotiations, with the deals being confirmed around the closure of the window in England.

Manchester United had been competing with the Toffees for Mina, but the Old Trafford club pulled out of negotiations that morning.

Repurchase option

Everton and Barcelona discussed fees all day on Thursday and in the end they agreed a price of 30.2 million fixed plus 1.5 in variables for the defender, with the Catalans holding a buy-back option for the future that will rise to 60 million euros.

The signing of Mina by the Camp Nou side can still be seen as a success off the pitch if not quite on it, after the club had only signed him in January for 11.8 million. Six months later and after a good World Cup, they have moved him on for almost three times what they paid for him, despite him never quite performing during his short stay.

Gomes' departure was not quite as profitable. Barcelona wanted 20 million euros for him but nobody was willing to put it on the table.

In the end, the Portuguese will cost Everton 2.2 million for the loan and pay his wages in full, another favour from the club who also splashed 20.2 million on Digne.
