Taylor wants more from Exeter despite maintaining 100 per cent winning record

Matt Taylor maintained his 100 per cent winning record as Exeter boss following a 2-0 victory at Morecambe – and then demanded more from his side.

The Grecians made it two wins from two in League Two this season against a side still looking for their first goal and point of the new campaign.

After Pierce Sweeney’s penalty and Jayden Stockley’s header earned the points, Taylor said: “It’s a 2-0 victory but it looks a lot more comfortable than it was.

“We may have got the three points but we were not at our best and I know we have a lot more in our locker than we showed, especially in possession.

“I was slightly disappointed with our performance to be honest but, at the end of the day, to get three points at a team like Morecambe is always good because they are a decent side and made it hard for us.

“They asked a lot of questions of us and, for the first half although we went into the break ahead, I didn’t think we had done enough and we weren’t quick enough to the ball.

“But we lifted it for the second half and reduced Morecambe to a few half chances and we scored a second with our one bit of real quality.

“I’m pleased with the win and although I felt we were effective I think there is a lot more to come from us.”

Morecambe boss Jim Bentley was happy with his side’s response after their 6-0 opening day defeat at Crewe but said his side’s poor finishing once again proved decisive.

He said: “I wanted a response from last week and I got it but there is still work to do.

“We had the better of the chances but again we failed to put the ball in the back of the net and that has killed us.

“We haven’t scored for six games now and that is a horrible statistic for us.

“There was a lot of effort today, though, and we created the chances.

“Overall there were a lot of positives and it was a miles better performance than the game at Crewe and I don’t think we deserved to lose the game, but if you don’t score you don’t win games. It’s as simple as that and something has to change.

“I don’t think they created too much and on another day we get something from the game, but it wasn’t to be.”
