Court to reopen the Abidal liver transplant case

After having further investigated the case of Eric Abidal's liver transplant, the prosecution is set to reopen legal proceedings.

The Office of the Prosecutor has observed indications of crimes of organ trafficking and false documents and the judge has already informed the parties that have been involved.

Gerard Armand, cousin and donor of Abidal, will be interrogated and asked to undergo forensic analysis, to determine whether he had been subjected to the operation.

The judge will ask the permission of the French justice, to deploy a rogatory commission - something that the country where Abidal's cousin lives has previously declined.

At the beginning of July, El Confidencial leaked telephone conversations, where former Blaugrana president Sandro Rosell admitted the purchase of a liver.

In the wake of the scandal, all parties, including Barcelona, the National Transplant Organisation and Abidal himself denied any irregularity in the process.
