Unai Emery told he's struck gold with bold move

ARSENAL could have struck gold by playing Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang together.

That's according to Tony Cascarino, who has hailed Unai Emery's decision to start both forwards.

The Gunners edged past Cardiff in a 3-2 thriller on Sunday.

Both Lacazette and Aubameyang got on the score sheet with Emery adopting a swashbuckling style.

Cascarino reckons pairing up the Frenchman and Gabon international is a winning formula.

He wrote in The Times: "Alexandre Lacazette played well for Arsenal.

"He is a much better player when he has a partner in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang near by.

"He likes flicks and little interchanges and Aubameyang playing on the right provides that.

"I worried when Lacazette came to Arsenal how he would fit in and then when Aubameyang arrived for £56m in January, he wasn't getting in the team.

"But if Unai Emery is going to play them both together - and with Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil coming forward from deeper - that will bring the best out of Lacazette.

"He is very one-footed, but took his chance well.

"As for Arsenal, the chances they give the opposition with bad play is always going to be their Achilles' heel -— whether that is Petr Cech or Granit Xhaka giving the ball away.

"Cardiff City did not have quite enough to punish them."

Speaking after the clash, Emery claimed his side are still a work in progress.

"I enjoyed the win," he said.

"In the 90 minutes it was difficult.

"I think we controlled the match not every time but 70% on the pitch with possession, positioning attacking movement.

"It's important to continue working.

"One goal for Lacazette, one for Aubameyang, but I think every other player worked well with commitment we want.

"We are happy for that and we are evolving."
