Pogba has apparently always been known to show off

Manchester United star Pogba has been the centre of attention again at Old Trafford this season.

After returning as a World Cup winner with France, Pogba has faced public criticism from Jose Mourinho while doing little to play down talk of a rift with his manager.

But Watford midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure insists the Premier League needs more characters like Pogba.

The pair know each other from their youth team days, and will do midfield battle tomorrow when United visit third-place Watford.

Doucoure said: “He was the same when he was young, he liked to show off, but he’s a very nice guy, very natural.

“Today there’s a different dimension, because he is a superstar, but he was always the same. He likes to laugh, to speak about everything. We speak together sometimes.

"He likes to show off, both on and off the pitch. I think he has this personality. He is like this because he is good on the pitch. It’s good for him.

"I played with Paul since under-16 level and he was, physically, the same like today. He was in advance of everyone. He had his technique.

"Of course, is a very important player for Manchester United. We have to be aware of him, he will be very dangerous for us.”

Doucoure sent Pogba a congratulatory text message when France lifted the World Cup in Russia this summer and admits he dreams of joining him in the national team.

"I think, if Watford is good like we are at the moment, it’s good for me, it’s good for maybe a call-up to the national team,” he said.

"Of course, it’s one of my dreams to have a call-up.

"I have to be very good on the pitch, of course Watford have to be at the top as well, to have more visibility for me.”

Watford still boast a 100 per cent record this season, matched only by Liverpool and Chelsea.

They have twice as many points as United by Hornets boss Javi Gracia has played down claims United are in crisis.

Gracia said: “I don’t understand that word ‘crisis’. I don’t know if they are in crisis.

"I only know they have a very good squad and they can choose different players, most of them internationals.”

Controversial Watford mascot Harry Hornet has quit.

After 10 years as Watford’s matchday rabble-rouser, the man inside the costume, Gareth Evans, has handed in his uniform.

Two years ago, he upset Crystal Palace winger Wilf Zaha with a comedy ‘dive’ after a 1-1 draw at Vicarage Road, which prompted manager Sam Allardyce to call for the FA to take disciplinary action against him.

And last month, Palace boss Roy Hodgson branded his antics a “disgrace” before his side’s 2-1 defeat.
