Alberto Moreno set to leave Liverpool next summer

It has been reported by Goal that Liverpool left-back Alberto Moreno is set to leave Anfield on a free transfer next summer.

The 24-year-old has made just one appearance for Jurgen Klopp's side this season in their 2-1 defeat to Chelsea in the Carabao Cup.

With Klopp looking to bring academy graduate Adam Lewis into the first team picture, Liverpool have made no attempt to extend Moreno's current contract.

Signing from Sevilla for £12million back in 2014, Moreno was Klopp's first choice left-back at the start of last season.

Following an ankle injury he picked up back in December, the four-cap Spanish international was replaced by Andy Robertson.

While he was unable to earn his spot back for the young Scotsman, Moreno did manage to make 27 appearances across all competitions.

Still a popular member of Klopp's squad, Liverpool are not looking to offload him in January and are happy to let him leave for free next summer.

The full-back has made 137 appearances for Liverpool during his five-year stay on Merseyside.

As of January 1st, Moreno will be allowed to sign a pre-contract with any team outside of the Premier League.

Moreno to Barcelona?

While Moreno's tenure at Anfield appears to be coming to an end, the Spaniard is reportedly not short on options.

It has been reported by The Express that the left-back has caught the eye of La Liga giants Barcelona.

Without a clean sheet in their last five, Ernesto Valverde's side are keen to bring in defensive reinforcements.

Moreno is on a shortlist with Ferland Mendy, Jose Gaya and PSG's Juan Bernat.
