Arsene Wenger left Arsenal in the summer after 22 years in charge.

But the 68-year-old is not ready for retirement yet and claims he will start working again at the beginning of next year.

He told German newspaper Bild: “I believe I will start again on January 1. I don’t know where yet. I feel rested and am ready to work again.

“There are associations, national teams, it could also be in Japan. From my 22 years at Arsenal, I have big experience on different levels. There are enquiries from all over the world.”

Wenger has been linked with a move into a directorial role at PSG while he could be interested in a number of top level jobs that could be vacant in the coming months.

Julen Lopetegui’s position at Real Madrid is under threat, while Niko Kovac has started poorly at Bayern Munich.

There was even a suggestion from the Sky Sports pundits Jeff Stelling and Paul Merson that Wenger should be the next Manchester United manager with Jose Mourinho’s situation deepening.

“First of all, Jose Mourinho is 1/7 on to be the next manager to be sacked,” Stelling said on Soccer Saturday earlier this month.

“Zinedine Zidane doesn’t speak English by the way, I don’t know how big a drawback that is, he’s favourite to come in.

“But I’ve got an idea and I know that this is going to be perfect and Manchester United fans will love me.

What United want is Champions League qualification, year in year out. Great, attractive, attacking football. Someone who can get the best out of Alexis Sanchez, who’s not in a job at the moment.

“Arsene Wenger has got to be the next Manchester United manager!”

And Arsenal legend Merson came round to the idea.

“That seriously is not the worst idea,” Merson said.

“You have to look at what Wenger done. He doesn’t have to go out and buy £80m and £70m players. Some of the gems he’s got in time. What price is he?”

Wenger was also quizzed about German football and his former player Mesut Ozil.

"I believe that Germany needs Ozil. I hope that Joachim Low (Germany boss) can convince him that he will come back," Wenger said.

"Ozil is a super football player, who was not the worst in the World Cup. I did not love that he left the German national team.

"I love it when the players are as good as possible. He loses a bit if he does not play at an international level."
