Turgott scores winner from the spot as Maidstone fight back to stun Macclesfield

A fine second-half comeback saw non-league Maidstone beat Macclesfield 2-1 to advance to the second round of the FA Cup.
After Ben Stephens had given Macclesfield a first-half lead, Jack Powell got Maidstone’s first goal with a superb free-kick before star man Blair Turgott added their second from the penalty spot.
United sealed their third win in four games in all competitions while Macclesfield’s horrible start to the season continued.
Macclesfield – bottom of League Two – opened the scoring in the 14th minute through Stephens, who finished into the top corner after Malachi Napa outpaced the defence and squared the ball to him.
Just six minutes into the second half, Maidstone equalised after Powell whipped his free-kick, about eight yards from the byline on the left wing, around and over Kieran O’Hara into the far corner.
A disallowed Maidstone goal in the 67th minute was forgotten two minutes later when Turgott buried a penalty into the bottom left corner to win it for the hosts.
