Bury boss Ryan Lowe: We got everything right

Bury manager Ryan Lowe saluted the professionalism shown by his players after they thumped Dover 5-0 in the FA Cup.

The Sky Bet League Two club made short work of the Vanarama National League’s bottom side at Gigg Lane.

Lowe said: “I’m just happy to be in the hat to be honest.

“I believe there’s been a few upsets today, I’m just glad we’ve not been on the wrong end of one of them.

“The lads have done their jobs brilliantly. They were respectful of the opposition, they stuck to the game plan, and in the end they’ve come away with a handsome reward.

“It’s all about us, though, and I’m only concerned with what we’re doing.

“We’re a good outfit when we’re in that kind of mood.

“We’ve got goals in us, we’ve got good passing movement, and the quality of some of our goals is really high.

“It wasn’t going to be easy for us, we knew that.

“Fair play to Dover, we knew they wouldn’t be coming here to roll over.

“We’ve just got everything right today.

“Everything we’ve worked on in training seems to have paid off, and that includes preparing for the threat of Dover and their big lads.

“I’m really pleased with a clean sheet, too. The defenders have been strong lately and that’s good for their confidence.”

The hosts struck after 12 minutes. Callum McFadzean’s cross from the left deflected kindly into Jay O’Shea’s path, and the midfielder calmly slotted home.

Danny Mayor scored a wonderful goal to double the lead soon after, gliding past at least two Dover challenges before drilling home.

It was 3-0 when Byron Moore tucked home underneath Mitch Walker’s body after latching on to Nicky Maynard’s smart pass.

Moore made it 4-0, hooking home Neil Danns’ cross from close range and substitute Dominic Telford made it five in stoppage time with a composed finish.

It proved to be a day to forget for Dover and their manager Andy Hessenthaler.

“Losing the two goals early on was a bit of a killer for us,” said Hessenthaler.

“Bury are an excellent team. They’ve been tonking sides in their division this season.

“We gave ourselves too much of a mountain to climb, and against a good side like Bury you just can’t do that.

“If we’d gone 1-0 up in the opening minutes, things might have been different, but it wasn’t to be.

“We’ve not really done ourselves justice, but that seems to be the way things are going for us at the moment.

“We’ve got really important league games coming up and we need to be really focused on them now.

“It’s not the best of situations we’re in of course, but there’s lots of points still to play for.

“The lads are down of course, but it’s about showing a bit of character now and bouncing back positively.”
