Man Utd news: Mauricio Pochettino WOULD be backed by Ed Woodward - Crouch

MANCHESTER UNITED executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward would back Mauricio Pochettino in the transfer market if he could lure the Spurs boss to Old Trafford.

That’s the view of former Tottenham striker Peter Crouch, who believes his old club could fall apart if Pochettino departs.

The Argentinian is among the favourites to be offered the Manchester United job at the end of the season.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been named as United’s caretaker boss until the end of the current campaign.

It comes after Jose Mourinho was sacked earlier this week with many reporting that he fell out with Woodward.

It came after Woodward failed to deliver on Mourinho’s wanted players which reportedly included the likes of Harry Maguire and Toby Alderweireld.

But Crouch believes Pochettino wouldn’t have the same issue from the executive vice-chairman.

"Money will not be an object in Manchester,” Crouch wrote for the Daily Mail.

"The next permanent manager will be given all the backing he needs and the potential, if they get it right, is frightening for their opponents.

"Pochettino could be the man they need to make it all click together.

"Potential, though, does not come with guarantees of success and that is why leaving Tottenham — if that is what Pochettino one day chooses to do — is a gamble.

"I don’t think the speculation will have any bearing on Tottenham’s results this year.

"But if he goes, it could rip the club apart.”

Sky Sports man Adam Bate thinks Manchester United's transfer decisions when the transfer window reopens next month will be based on who's the long-term successor to Jose Mourinho.

"I think it would be strange if the new manager wasn't consulted," Bate told the Transfer Talk podcast.

"Are we thinking Pochettino is in the frame for that? There's no way he'd be being consulted at this stage is there.

"For that reason I think it'd be really surprising if they signed too many players in January.

"They've got a pretty big squad and they'd be eating into the summer budget."
