MAURICIO POCHETTINO hinted he will stay at Spurs long term — and can win the Champions League with them “one day”.
But the Tottenham manager admitted they may have to accept losing star man Christian Eriksen. Poch remains Manchester United’s top target, despite their upturn under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Mauricio Pochettino must ensure his Tottenham team show the same fight that Tranmere certainly will
The Argentine has been banned by Spurs from talking about the United job having shrugged off speculation.
But he gave the biggest clue yet that he still has long-term plans in London — and claimed he would be sacked like Jose Mourinho if his superstars weren't in the running for the big prizes.
Poch said ahead of tonight's FA Cup trip to League Two Tranmere: "My ambition is to win the Champions League one day with Tottenham, or the Premier League.”
But Eriksen’s long-term future remains in doubt and could walk out of the door in the summer of 2020 when his £75,000-a-week contract expires.
Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has revealed he wouldn't lose any sleep should Eriksen leave the club
Christian Eriksen has been a key player for Tottenham since joining from Ajax in 2013
A new double-your-money deal is still unsigned amid interest from both Barcelona and Real Madrid.
And the Tottenham chief added: “Christian Eriksen is such an important player for Tottenham and of course as a manager, you would like to have this type of player with you.
"But in the end it’s a negotiation and there’s different parties that have different interests.
"It will be fantastic if Christian Eriksen is going to be committed with the club for a long-term, and if not it’s his right to do what he wants to do.
"I’m not a person that suffers too much in this type of situation because football is dynamic. Football is about interests that as managers or head coaches we sometimes cannot manage.”
Spurs are keen to sell midfielder Mousa Dembele before he becomes a free agent at the end of the season.
And they are also keen to get fringe men Fernando Llorente, Michel Vorm, Georges-Kevin Nkoudou and Vincent Janssen off the wage bill as well.
Pochettino admitted there was no guarantee any spaces would be freed up for new faces however.
